Yes I'm NUTS!...... London Marathon 2022 for The National Deaf Childrens Society.

I am running the London Marathon-2nd October 2022!

January 2022 - Sooooooooo I did a crazy thing..... it was about a month post kidney donation surgery and I was sat there thinking about how lucky I actually was with my health, even though it was tough at that moment, I WOULD get better! Then it occurred to me, so SO many people don't have that luxury. I wanted to give back, I wanted to help more, I wanted to make a difference even if it just brought a smile for a day.

Those who know our family will be lucky enough to meet my sassy little niece, Willow.  After a dramatic entry into the world, In January 2018, she spent the first 8 months of her life in the NICU at Guys & St Thomas Hospital in London.  Due to being a micro-preemie (24 weeks gestation) her parents, my sister & brother in law didn't find out Willow was profoundly deaf until she was almost 10 months old.   8 months later in June 2020 in the middle of lockdown in the UK, Willow had Cochlear implant surgery.  Everything went smoothly and she was switched on a week later.  Fast forward to January 2022 and thanks to her parents dedication to learning BSL from scratch, Willow can now sign over 150 words! For a 3 year old this is amazing! She also loves music & dancing & is becoming quite the chatterbox too!

The deaf community has become a huge part of my sisters' life and now mine. I always knew it would as we want WIllow to always feel 100% included in everything we do and not need my sister to translate BSL when were together. I joined a sign choir called 'Hands for Voices'  last year and I am astounded at how many signs I have learnt in such a short space of time! If you want to know more please give the choir a follow on - https://www.facebook.com/Hands4Voices/

I am both excited and bloody nervous as I have never run more than 10km in one go..... however, if surgery and being in the hospital taught me one thing is that I am damn strong, I am a fighter and I have determination. I also have the most supportive tribe of family and friends around me who I KNOW will be cheering by my side and helping me along this journey! So those of you who are in the know of marathon training - ill be hitting you up for advice SOON!!

I look forward to sharing more about this charity throughout the coming year and welcome any and all support you beautiful humans, much love from a buzzing and terrified yogi, Sammi x
